4.Amanda s character was a sort of dislikeable person, only because of her attitude. She was made to be be disliked as the character. She is not very rude but she is very bossy and strict.
ReplyDelete5.Amanda always refers to her husband because i think to her it puts her in a better place when she thinks of the past.To Tom its a sence of ignorance,Some what hatred and I dont know how its a threat but it might mean to amanda that Laura will never meet someone to marry and ever be like her.
6.Tom does start to act differently int he middle of the play because through out the whole play he says things that make him seem very fustrated, such as the mopes and grones he gives off when amanda is speaking.when amanda starts to act different too she says a couple of things such as "Go then, go to the mon you selfish dreamer" she was angry with Tom.
7.Tom does have flaws in a way he hides everything, Laura is shy and not social, amanda is over controlling. In a way i can relate to laura for being shy. The weird thing is that Tom does use the movies as a distraction to get away of the real world.

ReplyDelete1. The fire escape in the play is important because everytime Tom feels pressured or attacked by his mom he goes to the fire escape to smoke a cigarrete. The fire escape serves as a symbol for freedom or and escape from his life like his father got away from them. The fire escape reveals in Tom his yearn for escape. The fire escape in Amanda is how she fears the thought of Tom leaving her and Laura. The fire escape shows how fragile Laura is, shes to innocent to leave her mom.
3. The symbolic significance for the unicorn is how the unicorn and Laura are both different from the normal people because of their physical disabilities. Laura gives to Jim the broken unicorn because it becomes normal like the rest without its horn, it resembles how he has changed her to an ordinary girl. "Maybe it's a blessing in disguse," means since he changed the unicorn to a horse, he's changed her to an ordinary girl and that maybe thats just what she's wanted all her life to feel wanted by others.
5. The picture of the absent husband represents to Amanda is the one that got away. He was able to escape her and leave the kids for his own happiness and she wants to be happy but she won't be as selfish as her husband or Tom because she puts her children before her. Tom sees his dad as a coward who couldn't handle his life but understands what he went through and wants to escape just like his dad. The photograph represents courage to Tom, it always lets him know that theres another way out, and that way out is away from his mom and sister.
6. In the middle of the play, Tom has had enough he can't take anymore from his mom, he's tired. He's about to go to the movies and his mom doesn't believe he's going to the movies, she thinks he doing something that's going to jepordize his job.
TOM. House, house! Who pays rent on it, who makes a slave of himself to-
AMANDA.(fairly screeching) Don't you DARE to-
Amanda is becoming harsher on Tom because she's afraid of being left alone with Laura with no one to take care of them.
2. The firescape is a symbol of the escape that Tom plans throughout the play. It is also referred to relieve themselves from these “fires of human desperation’’, in other words to escape from their problems.
ReplyDelete3. The unicorn and the yellow dress are the most realistic aspects. The Gentleman Caller and Tom’s father; “A person who fell in love with long distance”, are both the most nonrealistic. The Gentleman Caller signifies hopes and dreams that are waiting for the characters. Tom’s Father represents a person that abandons his responsibilities and dreams, perhaps because he felt unachieved.
6. The unicorn symbolizes Laura. The unicorn is the only horse with a horn Laura has. Laura gives it as the souvenir to Jim after the horn fell out to represent how Jim changed not only the unicorn, but Laura also by helping them belonging in a world they avoided. Laura sees this event as a blessing since she realized she could now fit in the world.
8. Amanda is more of a silly, frustrated woman, Williams doesn’t want the audience to dislike her, but more to understand her. Understand her strong character and her broken dreams,. Since she couldn’t realize her dreams, she wants her sons to do so. That is why she pushes her sons a lot.
Amanda is forced to be rude and tough to take care of Laura and herself.
ReplyDelete3. The way I felt about Amanda in the play reading was that she wanted her children to be happy and not let their live sturn out like hers with her husband leaving her. On stage I felt the same way about her but she was pushing things a little to far causing Tom to always get mad.
ReplyDelete2. The effect it had was that it was more important to Laura on stage because we can see that she took a big step from just keeping to herself all the time to dancing with JIm. It took her a while to wrap hers arms aroung JIm but she took it in and accepted it.
3. I heard music during the sad scenes and during Amandas past when she ahd many gentlemen callers. It affected the audience by setting the mood of the scenes. The music timing did enhance the production because when their eating diner, Lauras all alone and a sad, longer song came on as she continued keeping to herself in the quiet.
7. The way this was effective was by the fumes of the cigerette. The audience in the front row could really smell the sent and it gave them a feel like if they were really there in that time period standing next to Tom.It was realistic.
1.)The fire escape represents how it is an escape for Tom. So that they can live a real life and not a life supporting his family.
ReplyDelete2.)The most realistic aspects in this play is the dance hall and the unicorn. The dance hall is realistic because it is next to the apartments and you can see and hear it. And the same thing with the unicorn. What is the most unrealistic are the gentlemen callers. They are just a sigh of hope and desperate.
3.)The significant of the unicorn is that it is different than the other horses. And she gave the unicorn to Jim because she felt that Jim changed her life like how he changed the unicorn.
4.)Amanda is more of a silly frustrated woman. And William does not want you to hate her, but more understand what it is like to be in her shoes.
1) The fire escape was important in the play because the characters use that as an entrance and exit to the apartment. The fire escape is a symbol of tom's escape through out the play . It seems to symbolize an escape for the deep depresion each of the family members are going through.
ReplyDelete3) The unicorn is a symbol of laura's personality.like a unicorn , Laura is different, special, and unique. She seems to not be able to blend in anywhere. Its significant because when jim breaks the unicorn, he;s making it like all the other horses and this causes laura to be healed in some way herself. When Laura says" Maybe it's a blessing in disguise", She means that there might be a reason why he broke the unicorn. Since " Everything happens for a reason".
ReplyDelete4) I think amanda is a silly frustrated women who live in the past and can't get over the fact that her husband left her. In a way i think william wants us readers, to dislike her because maybe thats how he felt about his mom, since he didnt have a very close relationship with her.
ReplyDelete7) I think that tragicaly flawed means to have somehting go terribly wrong and has caused a life changing experience. For example Laura, she has had to live without a father, a crazy mother, a horrible mental illness and her only hope abandons the family.
ReplyDelete1. The fire escape is important because it serves as a way out, not for one person, but for everyone. I believe that the fire escape is symbolic because it's in the back of the apartment, much like there is always a back door to get out of situations. Also, since the first escape is somewhat dirty and unkept, it reminds me of both Tom and Laura.
ReplyDeleteTom has a messy life and a lot of people rely on him, much like the fire escape.
Laura on the other hand, needs a lot of help. The fire escape acts like her savior.
3.The symbolic significance of the unicorn is the fact that it is different. Like Laura, the unicorn sticks out like a sore thumb because of it's physical attributes. However, I believe Laura finds security in having the unicorn.
It's important that Laura gave the 'horse' to Jim after it's horn was broken because she herself had been broken. Not in a bad way, but for her best interest.
To me, Laura's comment about it being a blessing in disguise means that it's not necessarily a bad thing that the unicorn blends in, because in society, it's a good thing to blend in. People who don't blend in are shunned, and afterall, all Laura wants to do is fit in.
4. In my opinion, Amanda is both a silly woman and an admirable one. Certain traits of Amanda are worth admiring, such as her persistence. However, her sanity is questionable. I believe Williams wants us to dislike her because of obsession with the past and her peculiar behavior. Reading through the play, I felt as if Amanda was alienated, and I was glad she was. It seems as if she smothers her children with her worries and fears.
7. Tragically flawed, to me, means that someone is so different, that society frowns upon them.
Laura is considered tragically flawed, not only because of her physical disability, but because she is single. In that time era, women should be married at her age, and keeping their home clean, as well as bringing up the children. Laura, on the other hand, focused on her glass. In others eyes, there was definately something wrong with her.
However, I cannot relate to her. Laura is a completely different person than I am.
The fire escape is important because it’s a way to go in and out of the Wingfields’ apartment. Its symbol of escaping the frustrations and rage that goes on in the apartment. For example, Laura slips on it which makes more evident that she will not be able to escape her destiny. And when Tom goes out to smoke, it foreshadows his getaway.
ReplyDeleteThe symbolic significance of the unicorn is that its one of Laura’s favorite figure and it represents odd personality. She gives the unicorn to Jim because it’s a piece of her and with the horn broken, it’s just another horse.
Tom is tired of always getting lectured by his mother and all the anger that he has kept over the years finally come out. Even though he loves her he is still cruel to her. “Ugly—babbling old—witch.”
TOM. House, house! Who pays rent on it, which makes a slave of himself to-
AMANDA. (Fairly screeching) Don't you DARE to-
They are probably acting differently towards each other because they are getting to the breaking point and are both tired of their situation. Amanda doesn’t want to be left alone with Laura while Tom is off in his own world.
I see Amanda as a silly frustrated woman of her constant nagging of Tom and her refusal to see Laura for who she really is. I feel some sympathy towards her because she is haunted by her past, being raised as a traditional southern woman, and is having difficulty adjusting to her new life.
1.The fire escape is important because it is used by the characters as an exit from all their problems... Like When Tom is feeling oppressed,When Laura is feeling Emotional, and when Amanda is afraid. They think of the fire escape as an alternative break from reality.
ReplyDelete2.The most realistic aspect would have to be the unicorn because it was actually There. The most non realistic aspect was the fire escape because it created false hope and no solutions to any of their problems.
4.Throughout the story,Amanda takes the role as the Control Freak character. What ever she says goes. It think William's wants the reader to dislike Amanda because he himself did not like her.
7. Amanda is very controlling, this tragic flaw contributes to the story because she tries to manipulate Laura and tom into her beliefs of happiness. I can relate to Amanda because sometimes i try go get people to do i want in ways that aren't very nice.

1. Why is the fire escape important in the play? How does the fire escape function as a symbol to reveal something about each character's personality? The fire escape is a symbol of Tom's plans to pursue his dreams and live his life. It's where everyone in the family escapes to dream.
ReplyDelete3. What is the symbolic significance of the unicorn? Why is it significant that Laura gives the unicorn to Jim as a souvenir once its horn has been broken? Why does Laura say "Maybe it's a blessing in disguise" about the unicorn's broken horn? It symbolizes Laura, standing out from the group and not being able to blend in. It breaks and Laura is symbolically wounded but healed as well.
4. Consider Amanda's character throughout the play. Is she an admirable person or a silly, frustrated woman? Does she arouse your sympathy, or do you think Williams wants you to dislike her? Explain. She is a silly frustrated woman because she doesn't have the life she envisioned. I think Williams wants her to be disliked because he points out many flaws, more than everybody else.
7. Tennessee Williams' characters are known for being "tragically flawed." What does this mean to you? Pick one character and discuss his or her tragic flaws. Can you relate to any of these? Explain. Tragically flawed to me means a problem that can't be fixed. Amanda is very controlling of everyone's life. She attempts to make everyone see things her way.I can't relate to these characters.
1] The fire escape is important because it symbolizes an escape for Tom. The escape is for people like Tom to escape from fire of human desperation.
ReplyDelete3] The unicorn symbolizes Laura's favorite figurine. She gives Jim the unicorn because she is wounded because he broke the horn so she wants Jim to care for it as if he is taking care of her.
4] Amanda is a silly, frustrated woman because she is struggling with her kids. I think Williams wants the audience to dislike her because he probably didn't like his mom which is symbolized as Laura.
1. The fire escape is important because it symbolizes the escape that Tom plans. The fire escape is where everyone escapes to their dreams in the play.
ReplyDelete2. the most realistic aspect was the unicorn. The most unrealistic was the fire escape because it was just hope and dreams.
3. The unicorn symbolizes how Laura is different from her peers just how the unicorn is different from its peers. It is significant that Laura gives the Unicorn to Jim because Laura is wounded but healed as well.
4. Amanda is a silly frustrated woman. She does arouse my sympathy because she just wants the best for her kids. She doesn’t want her kids to be like her. She does all she can to get her kids a good life.
I agree with Bernadette, the fire escape is dirty just and messy just like Tom and Laura's life. Nevertheless a lot of people depend on it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jairo because Amanda is a silly and frustrated woman. She is frustrated because she doesnt want Laura to be like her, and Tom to turn out to be like his dad. She is silly because she cant let go of her past. And she does want the best for her kids.
ReplyDelete1. The fire escape represents how it is an escape for Tom. So that he can live a real life and not a life supporting his family.
ReplyDelete2. The most realistic in this play is the dance hall and the unicorn. Unrealistic is the gentleman caller. He was more like hope and not reality.
3. The significant of the unicorn is that it’s different than other horses. She gave it to Jim because she felt that Jim changed her life like he changed the unicorn.
4. Amanda is more of a silly frustrated woman. William does not want you to hate her, but more understand what it is like to be in her shoes.
1.The fire escape is important because it represents Tom’s escape and how he smokes outside meaning he does not feel comfortable smoking inside.
ReplyDelete2.The most realistic aspects were the dance hall and unicorn. The most nonrealistic aspects were the gentlemen callers because they were basically just hope.
3.The significance of the unicorn is that it is not like the other horses which symbolizes that Laura is unique and different. Laura decides to give Jim her unicorn which demonstrates that Jim understands that she’s different.
4.In my opinion Amanda rather than being seen as silly, should be seen as someone to look up to. I think this because she tries very hard to motivate and make Laura happy. I don’t think Williams created Amanda for readers to dislike her.
1. The fire escape is important by the way it expresses Tom's character. He uses the fire escape to go and smoke in the house or in front of his family. It is also a way for Tom to escape.
ReplyDelete2.The aspects of the play that are most realistic are Laura's nervouness do to the fact that she is crippled. I also think How amanda reacts to tom's constant being at the movies could be condidered realistic. It is un realistic because it is a memory play
to be continued.....
I agree with Daniel that the fire escape is a way to get away from all troubles that brings stress and fustrations. I can see now how the fire escape symbolizes Laura as not being able to escape her destiny because when you keep falling it means you've failed at something.
ReplyDeletei agree with katie. the fire is very important towards Tom's character.
ReplyDelete1. The fire escape is important to Tom it helps him escape. he can live a life on his own and not relying on his family.
ReplyDelete2. The most realistic in this play is the dance hall and the unicorn. Unrealistic is the gentleman caller. He was more towards hope rather than reality.
3. The significant of the unicorn is that it’s different than other horses. laura gave the unicorn to Jim because she felt that Jim inspired her life like he inspired the unicorn.
4. Amanda is more of a dumb, angry woman. William does not want you to hate her, but more understand what it is like to be in her shoes.
2. It represents Tom's escape and when he smokes outside it means he does not feel comfortable smoking outside.
ReplyDelete3. The most realistic aspects were the dance hall and unicorn, & the most non-realistic aspects was the gentlemen callers, basically hope.
6. The significance of the unicorn is that the unicorn is different from the others and symbolizes that Laura is unique. Laura decides to give Jim her unicorn which we see that it demonstrates how Jim understand she is different..
8. Amanda should be a person reader's should look up to, she tries her best to motivate and make Laura happy, I do not think Williams created Amanda for readers to brag about or dislike her.
By the way..Hardcore Christian is Alexis Trevizo
ReplyDelete2. The fire escape is important because it symbolizes Tom's escape from his family's troubles and of his own. It is also an escape from the real world for the other members of the apartment.
ReplyDelete10.The significant of "blue roses" in the play is what Jim calls Laura. There are no such things as blue roses therefore, calling Laura different from everyone else.
6. The significance of the unicorn is that there are a unique animal. Just like Laura she is different from everyone else. Laura gives the unicorn to Tom because she felt that he has changed her life just like the appearance of the unicorn.
8.Amanda is a silly frustrated women. I feel sorry for her because she wants her kids to know that she wants whats best for them and they can't see it. She wants them to have what she didn't have when she was young.
I agree with Jairo. The fire escape is used for the family members to escape from there troubles.
ReplyDeleteI can see why Alexis thinks that the Gentlemen Callers are the most non-realistic aspects of the story because they represent false hope, and i think that we both agree on that.
ReplyDelete2)The fire escape is a symbol of the dreams that Tom plans on doing with his life, It's where everyone in the family escapes to their own
ReplyDeletedream.
6)The unicorn symbolizes Laura. Laura gives it as the souvenir to Jim after the horn fell out to represent how Jim changed not only the unicorn, but how laura is now living a life she was avoiding to live. Laura sees this event as a blessing since she realized she could now fit in the world.
8)Amanda is more of a silly frustrated woman, what williams is trying to let the audience know is what amanda has gone through now that her dreams her destroyrd and shes pushing tom to become someone now that he can live his dream.
10)The significant of "blue roses" in the play is what Jim calls Laura. There are is no such thing as blue roses. so for jim to call Laura "blue roses" it like saying shes different from everyone else.
1. What is the symbolic significance of the unicorn? Why is it significant that Laura gives the unicorn to Jim as a souvenir once its horn has been broken? Why does Laura say "Maybe it's a blessing in disguise" about the unicorn's broken horn?
ReplyDelete- Maybe Laura feels that she is like the broken unicorn. Since she is different from the rest, she is broken, not just from the outside but emotionally as well. She might have given the unicorn to him because it may be her way of feeling that the unicorn will then feel safe. One it is with Jim, and that may be the way she feels (safe with Jim). I think she says that because even though the unicorn has now broken its horn, it will now be with Jim, which may be a blessing, or being different may be a blessing.
2. Tennessee Williams' characters are known for being "tragically flawed." What does this mean to you? Pick one character and discuss his or her tragic flaws. Can you relate to any of these? Explain.
- I feel that Tennessee Williams displays or portrays the people in his life as characters in his stories. For example, Laura is different and unfortunately crippled. This is just as tragic as his own sisters flaws which is having schizophrenia. In the time he lived in, homosexuals were largely discriminated against and he made Tom to be the odd one out just like he may have been. I can relate to what Tennessee Williams does, because sometimes when i have projects or reports due i use subjects that are personal to me, to make the paper or project more personal.
3. How do you feel about Tom's decision to leave at the end of the play? If there was an alternate ending in which Tom did not leave, what would this mean for the Wingfield family?
- I felt that maybe it was better for both Laura and Amanda, that Tom left. Amanda needs to wake up and stop living in this fantasy Southern Belle world, and take care of what needs to be taken care of, which is her daughter. Laura needs to realize that she needs a husband, a family of her own, and stop being so stubborn about going out into the world. If Tom hadn't left i think they would just keep living the way they have always lived. Still stuck on the memory of their father who abandoned them, and with a Mother who lives in the past. Laura and Amanda need a dramatic change so they can change.
4. Consider Amanda's character throughout the play. Is she an admirable person or a silly, frustrated woman? Does she arouse your sympathy, or do you think Williams wants you to dislike her? Explain.
She is a silly and frustrated woman. Amanda is frustrated with not being that Southern Belle girl that she used to be, and is always putting down her daughter. Trying to force her in a way to find a man that Laura does not want. I think he wants us to feel sympathy and for us to dislike her. He wants us to dislike how she acts but then justify her and feel sympathy. Because the reader can easily go both ways with Amanda's views. I can see her actions from both ends of the rope, and i understand.
Man Priscilla Wrote a lot!
ReplyDelete=]
2. By making the scene longer... It had that much more importance. To Laura it was such an important and unforgettable moment. The kiss realistcally could have been shorter, but in Laura's head it last forever. It's something she'd never forget and by making the scene long the audience wouldn't have forgotten it either.
ReplyDelete4. When we were reading the play in class I felt bad for Amanda. It seemed like she was going through a lot... If it wasn't one thing it was another. Seeing the play I felt different. Instead of feeling bad I felt completly annoyed. She was canstantly complaining and napping her to her kids.
7. I think the smoking on stage was effective. Most people smoke when they're stressed or going through a lot. Tom smoked quite a bit during the play so you could tell he was going through a lot just by the amount of cigarettes he smoked. He had to deal with his mother's constant bickering and work.
8. I feel like the ending in the manuscript was more powerful. When we went to watch it, at the end Tom kinda just stood there with Laura off to the side. I had a harder time understanding that ending then the actual ending in the manuscript.
I agree with Priscilla about how Tennessee Williams uses people in his life as characters- potrays them as characters.
ReplyDelete1. The fire escape is used as an entrance and exit door of the apartment, which makes it a bit unusual because a fire escape is only suppose to be for emergencies. The fire escape in the apartment symbolizes the escape that Tom desires to have each day of his life. The fire escape not only fits Tom, but also the other characters as well. For example, Laura wishes to escape as soon as possible from her shyness and enter a world in which she can feel normal. In a similar case, Amanda wishes to escape reality and always live as a young lady as she was before she got married.
ReplyDelete3. The unicorn represents Laura, because it’s a made up creature different from the other horses. Laura also lives in a made up world and is different from other girls. Once Jim and Laura accidently break the unicorn’s horn it is just like the other glass shapes horses. Laura says: “Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise,” because for her, it would be a blessing to be feel normal like the rest of the people. Laura gave the unicorn to Jim as a souvenir so that he can always remember her and the impact of motivation he made on her.
4. Amanda is a frustrated woman who also frustrates her daughter and son. In the play she did not arouse sympathy in me. Williams wants us to dislike Amanda because he only tells us the negative things about her. For example, Tom and Amanda always seem to be arguing and Amanda never seems to notice the real problem of her daughter Laura. Although I have to admit that Amanda is a warm mother who wants the best for her children, Amanda wants to cover up the problems with simple and moves.
7. “Tragically flawed” means someone who has a defect or a tragedy that seems unfair to have it (like one of those things where you ask yourself “Why me?”) For example, one of the characters that I highly consider “tragically flawed” is Laura. Laura was diagnosed with mental problems, and the effects were: couldn’t finish school, locked her self in her own world, not being social, extreme shyness, incapable of living independent.
1.The fire escape plays a sort of freedom role for Tom since everytime he feels pushed or stressed by his mom he smokes a ciggarete by the fie escape. For Laura is just shows how innocent she is and for Amanda it creates sort of a fear of having Tom leave like her husband left.
ReplyDelete3.The significants of the unicorn is that it's different from any other horse. Like how she is she identifys herself with it. But when Jim breaks the Unicorn it breaks her image of herself not fiting in and she now feels like she does. He changed the unicorn like he changed her.
4.I think she is a silly frustarated woman, Amanda is always picking at Laura for day dreaming, and imaginting life a different way. When AManda is to caught up in past not letting go of what was. and as the play progressed my feeling towards her didn't change. Which I know where she's coming from since in those years a woman had to have a husband to support her and since Laura is socially awkward it was a worry for her. She is still to hard on her. Williams doesn't necessarly want them to dislike her but understand how she feels.
7.Amanda is very tragically flawed her allusions of her passed and her contolling ways make her that way. She wants to make Laura perfect and she picture her that way when in realty she is trying to make her perfect instead of accepting her flaws. But I can't relate to Amanda becasue I am nothing like her.
I agree with Israel on #8, because Laura and Tom can't really see the cosequences that will be coming in the future if there's no one to take care of Laura. Amanda is just desperate to leave her children safe and happy before she dies.
ReplyDelete3.The symbolic significance of the unicorn was that the unicorn was different from all her glasses. I think its significant that she gives it to Jim after the horn is been broken because I think she wants to show Jim that she is unique. Laura sais it's a blessing in disguise because I think she is trying to say she is a wonderful person but she hasn't gone out of her shell.
ReplyDelete4.Amandas character throughout is more of a dislikable person. Because I don't think her children admire her because of her attitude towards them. She's always talking about all the gentleman callers she had in the past making her daughter Laura feel bad about herself. I think Williams wants us to dislike her a little bit because she is not being a good mother to her kids she is to strict that doesn't show much love to them.
5. The picture of her husband represents that she still loves him and hasn't forgotten him. Also that she lives in the past. I think this is a threat to Laura because Amanda is making her feel like she will never find the right person.
7. I think that means that everyone is different and don't have perfect lives. Laura was very shy and liked to spend a lot of time by herself in her room. I think I can relate to her by that because I am a very shy person, and most of the time I am alone in my room.
8. I feel that Tom made the right decision because he was always trying to be differnt and had a job he disliked. If Tom had not left I think it would of ment he didnt care much of what was going on and didnt want to move on. Even though he missed his family he had the guts to move on with his life.
4. I dont think william wants us to hate her but i feel like he just wants us to see how some people jst live in their own fantasies. but i think she is just too full of herself.
ReplyDelete5. I feel like amanda tries so hard to make her son nothing like her husband. Like she doesnt want him to turn out like that. Because without her son theres nothing left of her. It reminds her of what she once had and what could happen.
6. I think this is happening because shes finally realizing that hes starting to think likehis dad and shes scared to lose him. He just keeps getting mad because she execpts him to do everything. I feel like hes getting tired of supporting them by himself.
8. I feel like he made a mistake by leaving them because they were barely living with him there. He was the only one with a job. I bet he felt free at first. But then he realized what he did and how it affected them. If he didnt leave he wouldve just been stuck with that life until the end. Thats probably what he was scared of.
The fire escape is important because in the play it’s like a main point. That’s the families escape place. When feeling depressed, pressured or down Tom goes to the fire escape to get away from the problems. The fire escape can symbolize the escape that they want to have from the life that they’re living. Its depression time and they are struggling. As for Amanda when Tom goes to the fire escape she feels like Tom is escaping from the family like his father did. That scares her.
ReplyDeleteEveryone is different in their own unique way; Laura on the other hand was very different from the others. She kept to her self and wasn’t really sure of her surrounding most of the time. She spent most of her time in her room and away from the outside world. I feel like I can relate to her because I am kind of that way, to me I am different from a lot of people in just the way that I think and the way that I live my life. I also keep to myself most of the time, and don’t really interact with the outside world.
The unicorn represents Laura, as the unicorn is very different from the other horses with a horn on his head that’s how Laura is from the rest of the girls her age. They are very different from what others are. When the unicorn breaks its like she breaks as well. She breaks out of her shell when she is with Jim. It’s a new experience she is living and that unicorn breaking broke for a reason.
